One of the most negative aspects of smell loss for many sufferers is the reduction in the ability to detect flavour in food. This doesn’t have to mean that eating is devoid of any pleasure, however. In this section of the site we look at how our sense of smell contributes to flavour perception, and what ‘taste’ actually is.
Many people who think they have a problem with their sense of taste are actually suffering from a smell disorder, but there are ways in which taste alone is affected.
Fifth Sense exists to provide support and advice to smell and taste-related disorder sufferers, and so that society can understand what it means to suffer impairment of one or both of these senses.
