Anosmia Awareness Day 2022 / Fifth Sense Launch SmellSafety Survey
On Anosmia Awareness Day 2022 Fifth Sense is launching a survey to capture the safety concerns of people affected by smell disorders, along with details of gas and food-related safety incidents they have been exposed to at home and work. We’ll be using this as part of an ongoing campaign to raise awareness of the impact of smell and taste impairment on our safety and wellbeing and improve support and guidance for people affected.
Our sense of smell acts as a key early-warning system for hazards such as gas, smoke and spoiled food. Having a smell impairment make us vulnerable to these dangers.
In recent months Fifth Sense has been contacted by people, including those affected by Long Covid-related smell impairment, who are concerned about gas and food safety at home. Yet at the same time, sections of the food and beverage industry, and retailers, are asking people to use their sense of smell and taste to detect if food is safe to eat instead of best before end dates.
There’s a clear need for greater awareness and support from both industry and public bodies. We’re determined to deliver both, but we need your help.
We will be incredibly grateful if you would spend 5-10 minutes of your time to share your concerns and experiences with us by completing our SmellSafety survey. Please also share it with others you know who are also affected by a problem with their sense of smell or taste. Click here to complete the survey:
Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experiences to help us better support you. Please also consider making a donation to support our work. You can do so safely and securely via Wonderful.
