Research being undertaken in the US by Prof. James Schwob and Bradley Goldstein has demonstrated the potential for preservation and activation of stem cells in the olfactory epithelium and transplantation of exogenous stem cells to repair the epithelium and restore the sense of smell. A new company, Mirodia Therapeutics, has been established with the aim of developing drug therapies based on this research. Prof Schwob and Mirodia founder Graham Wynne will be talking about what this could mean in the future for people affected by anosmia and parosmia and the possibilities and challenges that lie ahead.
