Smell the Fame
Famous TV chef loses his sense of smell
Happily, it’s not true. Yet it’s a headline that would grab everyone’s attention don’t you think?
That’s why Fifth Sense is delighted to be supporting a fab young film crew at the University of South Wales, in Cardiff. For their graduation film, the final-year students are creating a fictional movie in which a high-profile TV chef faces such a loss.
The crew at Cardiff have done their homework. They interviewed a large number of people with anosmia, talked to and followed bloggers, and liaised with stakeholder organisations including Fifth Sense. They were shocked at what they learned and believe that society as a whole should be made more aware of anosmia.
Of course, were a real, high-profile chef to suffer in this way, the personal impact would be harrowing and the outcomes uncertain. Often, there’s no better way of dealing with a difficult subject than through the medium of comedy. Smell the Fame is a fun, fifteen-minute film. Devon, the unfortunate TV chef, embarks upon a crazy, personal journey aided and abetted by a cast of extraordinary characters.
If everything goes according to plan – which includes crowdfunding the necessary budget – the movie will premier in June and thereafter do the rounds at film festivals. You can meet the team and learn more about the movie here.
