I came across the charity and its work by following the Chair, Director of Development and Operations and the charity on social media. I have to admit, initially I knew very little about smell and taste disorders, but from family and friends being impacted in this way by Covid 19, I am now acutely aware of their importance and how they provide fundamental enjoyment in everyday life.
I am a Registered Nurse with over three decades of working in healthcare at various levels from clinical practice to management positions. Prior to retiring in 2018 I was a Chief Nurse in the NHS. I am a Kings Fund Top Managers Programme Alumni and have up until recently, worked in health education transformation at Health Education England.
I am a Queens Nurse (QNI) a title given to recognise work and achievements in community nursing. I bring a wealth of experience in governance and quality and have a particular interest in patient experiences of health services and the effectiveness of interventions and treatments. I am very keen to use my experience to help Fifth Sense to grow and to use my professional experience to develop and support the work we do in whatever way I can.
I am a trustee of two other charities, both offering vital support and help to families affected by terminal illnesses and suicide. I live in the Lake District and enjoy fell walking, cycling and holidays.
